The Korean-registered nonprofit organization, Animal Rescue Korea 119, is again embarking on a national campaign to shut down the dog meat industry. Under the leadership of the very dedicated and courageous Im Yeong-Ki, they had made this journey in the previous four years, exposing dog farms and slaughterhouses around the country, filing complaints, and managing to shut down many of them. They also conduct rescues of injured stray dogs and cats and provide adoption services from their adoption center in Seoul.

They have completed collecting tips about illegal dog farms and slaughterhouses. They will embark on their national campaign on July 16th; through July 30th, they will be raiding and shutting down as many dog meat farms and slaughterhouses as possible.

Below is a translation of their announcement on July 7:

We are ready to depart on the national campaign to shut down the dog meat industry.

Our goal for this year’s national campaign to shut down the dog meat industry is to shut down 10 dog slaughterhouses and achieve administrative action against 30 dog farms.
Today we visited three dog farms to conduct a preliminary survey.
One of the three we visited was already closed. That’s a whopping 33%.
Over the past few years, the number of dog farms has decreased significantly.
We will shut down the slaughterhouses immediately with the cooperation of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police.
We are determined to fight the Meat Dog Farmer’s Association.
We know that the world doesn’t change immediately just because of what we do during these 2 weeks. But we want you to know that we are fighting. Our preparation is complete. It’s time for the fight!

Our national campaign to shut down the dog meat industry will launch at the Seongnam Moran Market, the largest dog carcass market in South Korea.
– Date: July 9, 2022, 1 pm
– Location: Seongnam Moran Market.
